Romy Mittelman

Lost wax casting is an ancient practice, that is very much alive in Romy Mittelman’s work. A rich gold envelopes her colorful gems and embodies a sense of time and history.

Experimenting with different waxes, textures and malleability Romy individually sculpts each piece before casting the wax model into precious metal. Precious gems, rubies, sapphires and diamonds are carefully combined and selected as their durability withstands the test of time. Her intention is to create keepsake pieces that transcend fashion with their own character.

Romy’s jewellery practice began in Rome in 2003 where she studied traditional techniques and foundations of Gold and Silversmithing. She furthered her studies at NMIT, with an Advanced Diploma in Engineering (Jewellery) and a Fine Arts degree at RMIT in Gold and Silversmithing. A love of sharing her knowledge with others led her to complete a Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Romy balances teaching the next generation of jewellers at Melbourne Polytechnic with her own jewellery practice.
