Jane Reilly

In conjunction with her training as a jeweller, Jane Reilly has a degree in Ceramics which gives her jewellery work a sculptural and gestural feel. Metal allows her the freedom to explore form and shape with an intimacy and freedom. Jane’s methodology is to begin in conversation with the metal, hammering in texture, bumps and form to the metal intuitively. Then rhythmically adding colour, drips of paint and line.

"I tell stories of memories through form, line and colour. Over the years of making, I have evolved a language of forms and mark making that explores the home and domestic world."

Jane’s subject dances around the familiarity of the domestic utilising familiar forms such as doorknobs, doors, blinds, cups and tableware and blends into landscape, belonging and memory. There is a collective communication between form and colour that allows her to create pairings of shapes and colours as "mismatched" or paired earrings. Each of Jane’s creations are different and many are double sided, allowing the wearer to interact with the piece.
