Frangipani

Neckpieces - Brooches - Earrings
by Belinda Newick

23rd July - 6th August 2010

The frangipani series evolved from my visits to Sri Lanka and from a childhood spent in sunny Perth WA. Leaving my birthplace allowed me to question my identity and my heritage. Melbourne is where I have chosen to take root and grow anew.

For this series I have taken the many names of frangipani, a flower rich in symbolism across many cultures. It represents life and death, warmth and place, and despite not being native, it has found a home in many places around the world, where it grows and thrives.
